Ubuntu 15.10 'Wily Werewolf' Released With New Features And Improvements Download Now

Ubuntu 15.10 which has been given a very horrible name ‘Wily werewolf’, yesterday exposed all the hunts and presented a new, finer and more stable desktop, cloud and server for us. Wily Werewolf contains some of the interesting features and improvements that make Ubuntu a little more closer to what modern OSes are. All the improvements make Ubuntu more handy and stable. So let’s deep down the changes synced into the Ubuntu 15.10 without any further wait.

The major changes that are being shipped with Ubuntu 15.10 are  New Kernel 4.2, Unity 7.3.3 with the numbers of fixes and improvements, Ubuntu Make, Steam Controller Support, Persistence Network Interface Names, and all the apps updated to their latest versions.

Ubuntu 15.10 ships with Linux Kernel that was released in August with the support of more hardware, like New AMD GPU driver, F2FS per-file encryption, NCQ TRIM handing and many more.

Graphically the biggest change in the Ubuntu 15.10 is the switch into the new, more comfortable scrollbars. Canonical has changed the overlay scrollbars to a new, more comfortable scrollbars. Unlike earliar’s scrollbar there won’t be problems in scrolling, like earlier when you hovered over the sidebar to scroll, the small scrollbar poped up and uncomfortable to set up the pointer at. Now Ubuntu default desktop shell has been updated to Unity 7.3.3 that has some improvements and tweaks. For example, now users can drag and drop applications from dash to desktop to create shortcuts, use keyboard up/down page button to scroll up/down in the dash and many more minor improvements and fixes. More changes in Unity 7.3.3:

• Dash title & BFB tooltip updated based on the privacy settings
• Session exit buttons now have a click effect
• Fix to prevent ‘shutdown’ of the computer when screen is locked
• Fix for full-screen menubar
• Fixes issues with ‘show desktop’ that caused window decoration for two windows of same app to vanish
• Dash: Non-expandable category headers skipped in keyboard navigation
• Dash: Non-expandable category headers are no longer highlighted on mouse over
• Dash: screenreader and KeyNav fixes
• Active app icons now show unfolded when launcher accordion triggered
• Dash: Non-expandable category headers are no longer highlighted on mouse over
• Dash: screenreader and KeyNav fixes
• New setting to control the show-now delay (when pressing Alt key)
• Fix for full-screen menubar

The major improvement for developers is that now Ubuntu Make supports more platform. For those who don’t know what Ubuntu Make is here is brief info.

It’s now easier for gamers to play without doing any tweaks for their controllers. Ubuntu 15.10 has the native support for the Steam Game Controllers. Just install the Steam and Plug-and-play. No more tweaks!

Another not much notable but important feature has been included in Ubuntu 15.10 is Persistent Network Interface Names. Back in June Martin announced that Wily Werewolf will support the Persistent Network Interface Names by default.

This means the interface names of networking hardware will still be there even after the restarting the system and removal of the hardware.
